Every track sets its own limits, so there is no single UK rule. This page summarises what the 127 tracks in our data publish. We last checked them on 3 November 2026. Always confirm on the track page or with the venue before travelling.

Minimum age for adult karts

118 hire venues publish a minimum age for their standard (adult) karts. Club-named venues are left out of this section because they state a club licence age rather than a hire minimum. The range is 8 to 18, the median is 13 and the most common is 13.

66 tracks (56%) set it at 13 or under; 52 set it at 14 or over, and 17 at 16 or over. 8 tracks do not state one.

Junior and cadet minimum ages

Junior (and, at some tracks, cadet) sessions are for younger drivers. Where a track uses these words, the age is the junior kart's minimum, and the rules for adult karts still apply to older drivers. The terms are not standardised, so a "cadet" at one track may be the same age group as a "junior" at another.

103 tracks publish a junior minimum age, ranging from 4 to 10. The most common is 8 (86 tracks, 83%).

Minimum height

Height limits are separate from age and are often applied alongside it.

Tracks publishing Lowest Highest Median Most common
Adult kart minimum height 85 120 cm 157 cm 150 cm 150 cm
Junior kart minimum height 76 100 cm 145 cm 120 cm 120 cm

For adult karts, 53% of the tracks that publish a height use the most common figure. For juniors it is 55%.

Maximum weight

Only 5 tracks publish a maximum driver weight, and their limits range from 110 kg to 127 kg. Most track pages do not state one, so ask the venue if it matters.

How to use this

  • Check both age and height for the kart you want to drive.
  • Look at the junior section of the track page for children. See the children's guide.
  • Compare tracks by region from the track list, or indoor and outdoor venues separately.
  • Costs also differ between junior and adult sessions; see what go-karting costs.
