This page compares electric and petrol hire karting using the track data behind this site. Track details were last checked on 3 November 2026. Where a track page does not say what powers its karts, the track is left out of the power counts below rather than guessed.

How the tracks split

We hold 127 UK tracks. For 66 of them the kart power is stated; for the other 61 it is not, so they are not counted either way.

Kart power Tracks Share of tracks where power is stated
Electric 32 48%
Petrol 27 41%
LPG 4 6%
Mixed 3 5%

LPG karts run on liquefied petroleum gas through a combustion engine, so 31 tracks in total run petrol or LPG against 32 electric. "Mixed" means the track data lists more than one kind of power.

Some tracks listed as petrol still use electric karts for younger drivers. In the data, 4 petrol or LPG tracks mention an electric motor for the junior or cadet kart in their engine details. So a "petrol" label on its own does not mean every kart on the track is petrol.

Indoor and outdoor

Of the 107 tracks where we know whether the venue is indoor or outdoor, 66 are indoor (62%), 40 outdoor and 1 both.

Venue Tracks with power stated Electric Petrol LPG Mixed Electric share
Indoor 49 28 18 2 1 57%
Outdoor 13 1 9 2 1 8%

Electric karting is concentrated indoors: 28 of the 32 electric tracks are indoor and 1 outdoor, with 3 not stated. Browse the indoor tracks or the outdoor tracks for the full lists.

Which operators run electric karts

2 operators with more than one site in our data run electric karts at one or more of them:

Operator Electric sites
TeamSport 22
Xtreme Karting 1

The other 9 electric tracks are run by single-site operators or independent venues. Operators with more than one site do not always use the same kart type at each, so check the individual track page.

Choosing between them

  • Minimum ages, heights and weights are set by each track and by kart type. Whether the kart is electric or petrol does not decide them. Read the age and height limits guide and then the track page.
  • Prices vary far more by track and session length than by power. See what go-karting costs.
  • If a track page does not say what powers its karts, ask the venue before you book.
